YWCA Kalamazoo on Doorlight

Seven screens from the staff side of the desk, then the same listing as a neighbor sees it. Built from what the YWCA has already said in public about what it needs.

The need, sourced

What is wanted today is hard to find.

Our reading, not their words: the YWCA's current needs live on a third-party page with no date and no hours, and older public notices had to say "accepting only." So donors cannot tell what is wanted today, and staff field the mismatch at the door.

Ongoing, undated

Wish list on a third-party page

  • "Rain gear - umbrellas, raincoats/ponchos"
  • "Traveling file storage - binders, waterproof folders, etc."
  • "Backpacks - kids and adults"
  • "Socks"
  • "Cleaning supplies for homes"
  • "Travel size hand sanitizer"
  • "Strollers - Must be new"
  • "Silverware", "Plates and Bowls", "Pots and Pans"
Reason given: "Clients are putting important documents in plastic bags"

Location "Virtual Opportunity." Time "Contact coordinator for times." No hours, no date.

A public notice that had to say "only"

"Accepting only: Linens (twin sheets, blankets, towels), diapers (sizes 3, 4, 5, 6)"
"baby wipes, personal care items, gift cards"

YWCA, 353 E. Michigan Avenue, Kalamazoo. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 am to 5 PM.

Where this started: a conversation with Carl BrownOn the morning of October 10, 2026, Carl Brown talked with Daniel May about YWCA Kalamazoo wanting something better: a new program to help them.
One address only: the public office drop-off

The listing shows 353 E. Michigan Avenue and nothing else. The shelter location never appears on any screen. Donor-side screens show counts and categories, never client information or donor names and contact details.
